It is easy to imagine a lovely yard with big trees lining the edge, flowering bushes, and pretty flowerbeds. To add to such a backdrop many homeowners add a porch or deck to their home. A porch is also referred to as a covered deck. Decks tend to be larger in size where as a porch can be narrow and long. Decks tend to portray the essence of a spacious area with patio chairs, table, and other exterior design elements present. The natural expansion of lovely patio furniture is outdoor lighting, especially an outdoor chandelier light to hang over the situation.
Lighting becomes a focal point of a room, especially when it is illuminated after dark. If you think about it, the sun has receded over the horizon and the chandelier becomes the largest object which sheds light. When a porch is narrower than a deck then only small flush mount ceiling lights are typically used. But for an area that is larger a fixture which produces more light is a logical choice.
When choosing an outdoor chandelier it is important to first be sure to limit your exploration to only light fixtures which are rated for outdoor use. Outdoor chandelier lights are UL approved for wet and damp locations. They come with circuitry that is sealed against poor weather and moisture. They also come with a grounded plug. All of these are items which are important for the protection of not only people but also the home itself.
Before leaving for the day to shop for an outdoor chandelier be sure to measure from the ground up to the point on the ceiling where you plan to hang the outside chandelier. Also try to measure how wide of a chandelier the area can accommodate and also what furniture you plan to place under the outdoor chandelier. In some cases two chandeliers might work better than just one. So be armed with measurements and thoughts as to the whole configuration of the area in which you plan to utilize the chandelier.
For less expensive lighting I have found Lowes Home Improvement stores to carry a nice lighting selection. Other large stores have not had as nice of a selection in the lighting department. Be sure to check that the outdoor chandelier lights you are considering are UL approved before making a selection.
Other stores which are good to visit are actual lighting stores. These stores carry brands such as Kichler that Lowes and Home Depots of the world can only dream of. Make sure to not only look at the light itself but also the price tag. In the end it may be more economical to purchase two smaller lights instead of one large one.
A third avenue for choosing and outdoor chandelier is to record the names and brands of the lights that you liked the best and then look on line for them. On line stores such as Amazon offer free shipping on some items and they carry name brands. Other lighting sites can also provide good service while still offering harder to find styles and name brands.
